Two sisters, Masha and Anya, are separated by lives in different countries: Masha lives in Moscow, hosts a cooking show, supports her family (her mother, Lyubov Pavlovna, and her son), and is in a complicated relationship with actor Roman Noskov. Anya lives in Odessa with her husband, Vadim (an SBU colonel), and their son. On February 23, Vadim hastily sends Anya and their child to Moscow, ostensibly for her grandmother's anniversary. The events of the SVO begin the next day.

Anya accidentally finds documents in Vadim's belongings that hint at his secret mission.
The sisters' relationship escalates: domestic tensions escalate into arguments about loyalty, duty, and family. Masha learns that her cooking show may be canceled due to the sponsors' stance. Anya, trying to get to the bottom of Vadim's affairs, contacts his SBU contact, who hints that Vadim may have been involved in a dangerous operation. Roman openly clashes with Masha, accusing her of "covering up" for her sister. Lyubov Pavlovna falls ill, forcing Anya and Masha to temporarily team up.
Masha decides not to cancel the show but to change its format—it will now be a program about supporting families. Anya receives an anonymous message with coordinates of a location where Vadim may be. She decides to go there, but Masha dissuades her, fearing for her nephew's safety. Roman, seeing Masha's hesitation, threatens to expose her "unpatriotic position" to the press. A crisis is brewing in the family: Anya feels like a prisoner, Masha like a hostage to circumstances. Lyubov Pavlovna, realizing that her daughters are on the verge of a breakup, tells them the truth about her past—how she once lost contact with her own sister because of ideology.
